Eat-A-Dish for Make-A-Wish®

Written on May 5, 2011

The eighth annual Maggiano’s Little Italy “Eat-A-Dish for Make-A-Wish®” campaign begins today in restaurants nationwide. The program runs May 5 – June 29, giving guests several delicious ways to support a great cause. Eat-A-Dish for Make-A-Wish benefits  the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, an organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Thanks to the dedication and generosity of our guests and teammates, this campaign has raised more than $1.5 million for the nonprofit since its inception eight years ago.  The success of this campaign and support we’ve received from our guests has allowed us to extend the campaign this year to eight weeks, enabling us to grant more wishes for these inspiring children!

Eat-A-Dish for Make-A-Wish menu
When guests order any item from the special menu, Maggiano’s will donate $1 per food item and $.50 per drink to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Dishes Featured May 5 – June 1

Bowtie Chicken with Aglio
Bowtie psata tossed with herb chicken, asparagus, fresh spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, Calabrian peppers & Parmesan

Chicken & Sausage Spiedini (pictured)
Grilled chicken & Italian sausage served with roasted peppers & onions, crispy red potatoes & topped with a Sicilian herb-vinaigrette

Alberini-style Shrimp with Risotto Milanese
Jumbo shrimp sauteed with aglio olio &  paprika, finished with a roasted red pepper sauce, fresh chives & saffron risotto

Berry Tiramisu

Flourless Chocolate Cake

Leslie’s Lemonade
A refreshing Peach & Pomegrante lemonade

Eight-year-old Dallas-Ft. Worth area wish child, Leslie is the inspiration behind our Leslie’s Lemonade. Our parent company Brinker International is sponsoring Leslie’s wish to go to the sunny, tropical beaches of Hawaii, a wish that will be granted June 15 following a send-off party at our Dallas  headquarters.  Leslie is looking forward to being on an island and seeing the ocean with her mom, dad and two older brothers. While on her wish she will swim with the dolphins, ride in a submarine and even go on a ocean dinner cruise!

Here is a drawing Leslie made of her wish to go to Hawaii:

Make-A-Wish Star cards
These inspiring decorative star-shaped cards adorn restaurants throughout the campaign—proudly displaying the names of patrons who have donated to the program. Guests can make a direct donation for an amount of their choosing to purchase a star card; 100 percent of the funds from star card sales will go directly to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Each star card features a wish child’s story, one of them is Anthony featuring his wish to go on a  Hawaiian cruise.

Maggiano’s in Scottsdale, Ariz., threw a luau for Anthony’s friends, family and the community to celebrate his triumphant return. He loved every minute of the luau, complete with an authentic Hawaiian feast. While a Polynesian dance troupe performed on the tiki-torch lit patio, Anthony and his friends danced the night away!

Now through June 29, when you “like” us on Facebook, you’ll receive a coupon redeemable in-restaurant when you order any of the Eat-A-Dish specials. For each Facebook coupon redemption, Maggiano’s will donate an additional $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. To redeem the coupon, either print it from the Facebook tab or present it to your server on your smart phone.

I had the pleasure of sitting on the board for a local Make-A-Wish Chapter. It was a tremendous blessing to me to serve in that capacity. The lives that were touched by that outpouring of generosity and love made all the difference and still give me tingles today as if touched by an angel.

  • bonnielb

I love this site, the recipes, the special offers and knowing how you are giving back. I would enjoy more affordable specials for special occasions like anniversaries, birthdays, that sort of thing. And more info on how to prepare a home version of some of your dishes

The flourless chocolate cake sounds fantastic. I’ll have to try it next time!

  • Karen D.

There are so many children in need – as a mom to an older adopted child, I am always thrilled when a corporation does special things for children. I know locally you have had classes for children with your chefs. Wish it was more affordable as it’s a great idea. Can you expand that idea to include more?

  • cheryl

I love the idea of the Eat-A-Dish promotion but, I would really like to see a vegetarian option for one of the meals. There are 3 meal choices but none of them can be ordered by those of us who do not eat meat. Thank you for listening :-)

  • Lorrainecohen

Love the flourless chocolate cake. I’ll be looking for it the nexy time I am in!

  • Lotus Blossom

Great addition to the online presence of Maggiano’s! The blog is well organized and has a good variety of items such as recipes, cocktail recipes, events announcements, charity fundraisers, promotion alerts, etc. It is also a good way for the public to get to know the different executive chefs. This blog can also be used for Maggiano’s news. One thing I’d like to see is healthy vegetarian and even vegan recipes. We are moving towards more health conscious alternatives, but that doesn’t mean that flavor or the essence of Italian cuisine is to be compromised.

  • Anonymous

If only Maggianos was available in more cities, our friends and family in the MidWest and Southern rural areas could know some of the most authentic Italian flavors. The banquets they put on are really so professional. I would love to hear more from the Chefs about their inspiration for the dishes and how they pick the ingredients!

  • Kmtoth

We used Maggianos to cater our Easter Dinner and it was wonderful. We are planning a Luau in July and was wondering what you served for the Luau for Anthony

  • Jimb37122

i thought this was pretty good. i’d like to see more on the line of ‘how we do that’ without giving up all your top secret ways.
Thank you for helping the make a wish foundation!

I think this is great. Cooking demonstrations would be wonderful

  • momx5

Wow! I’m really excited about your new blog! My family loves Maggianos! Since you asked, the recipe I would LOVE to have is for your Zucchini Fritte and the sauce that comes with it! That stuff is to die for!

  • gin5

I would love to see a good restaurant type salsa recipe. All the salsa’s at the store are chunky but the kind restaurants serve is the most delicious but stores don’t have it. Also, I LOVE the atmosphere and pasta at Maggianos and learned that my friend goes to one in Chicago too!

  • Shera_eddy

Wish more people knew about how wonderful this promotion is . More people would attend simply for the Make a Wish foundation.

  • Ann

    Very informative, thank you

  • Vadesai2

Blogs certainly are a great medium for customers, connoisseurs, and chefs alike to disseminate their thoughts and comments. As other people have certainly mentioned, we would like to see several items incorporated into this blog. Understanding the chef’s backgrounds would help key in on their palates and cooking styles. Recipes would certainly add a new level of discovery. Maggianos already has a great reputation and allowing people to explore the food in more depth would only better their experience in the restaurant. Finally, videos of chefs actually preparing the dishes (with insider tips and tricks!) would help budding chefs find their voice in the kitchen too. I absolutely would keep coming back to this website if these items could be incorporated! Thanks for a great idea!

Love Maggianos! We ordered carryout for Mother’s Day and were able to enjoy some of our favorite food while the kids played without disturbing other people. The menu for the Make-a-Wish promotion sounds awesome. Will have to come in for dinner to support Leslie’s wish to visit Hawaii. My id picture was taken in Hawaii – I hope that Leslie loves it as much as I do.

I would like to see the background of various dishes–where do the ingredients come from, what part of Italy would inspire the dish, how did the chefs decide to join your team and what experiences have they had in Italy? Why are certain cheeses chosen over others. Coupons!! We did not select the Make-a-Wish meals but made a cash donation. Keep this up as it is inspiring and a great way to get us to donate to causes we just don’t get around to.

Maggiano’s takes extreme pride in providing an exceptional experience to its patrons in-house, but has also made tremendous efforts to ensure that we can enjoy delightful meals at home. I would love to see some recipes (provided by your world class chefs) that I can make at home for my family. While my version of any of your dishes won’t be nearly as good as your chefs’- it will satisfy the Maggiano’s “itch” in between visits!

I am a regular diner at Maggiano’s in Boston. One thing I’d like to see are some mixed seafood pasta dishes, like shrimp and mussels or shrimp and lobster. I did not car for dish I had recently that i believe had crab and shrimp or lobster rolled in flat pasta with a very heavy creamed sauce (sorry i forgot the name). Never change your crabcakes, they are my favorite.

Saturday night my wife and I ate at your restaurant for the first time. The food was wonderful. I had the Chicken & Sausage Spiedini and was pleased to find out, before I ordered, that it was gluten free! My dietary restrictions require this. The presentation, flavor and combination of foods were fabulous!
I would like to see discussion of the foods entrees available that are gluten free, as well as, the small changes that can be made to other entrees to make them gluten free. Any chance of ever offering a gluten free bread or pasta on the menu?

Chicken and Sausage Spiedini looks good and colorful. My wife used to like a dish you had in the past but no longer have-pasta with roasted vegetables. Your dinners are a great value-especially your 2 for 1 pasta dinners-dine in. Our only complaint is that sometimes your pasta dishes are hard or undercooked.

  • Gretchenmannion

Great idea. I think you have touched on all the elements I would hope to see and/or request. The history or origin of drinks and desserts is fun to learn as is the area of Italy they originated in.

I love the idea of the Chef’s Blog. We eat there on our ‘date nights’ aleast 2 x per month. Its nice because Christina (hostess) knows us by name and face and always has a great table for us to enjoying the evening. The blog will help in the different menu items that are available and how they originated. Keep up the great work and we hope to see Maggaiano’s in a few days….

My wife Diana took me to the Maggiano’s in Troy Michigan for my Birthday recently, where I enjoyed the Crab & Shrimp Cannelloni. I had never tried this dish, and has become one of my favorites. I highly recommend this to everyone. Also, it would be wonderful to see a recipe for this dish as well.
